Youth Enrichment Program (YEP)

Macedonia provides the first things low-income adults and children need in their lives. For adults, that’s jobs.
For kids, it’s homework help.

In 2003 Macedonia began YEP for at-risk kids, ages 6-17, who were failing school or were latch-key kids with
no supervision.  “Some kids were not turning in their homework at all. Now they do it faithfully,” said Program
Director Demetria House, who obtains progress reports weekly from 15 teachers to track with students.

“We’re here to love the kids, teach them manners, be a place that cares, and give fundamentals for life,” said
Pavielle Dawson, who envisions the current class of 12 children growing to over 100.

These kids are the future of America, and what we do with them today will determine whether they end up
taking from society or making positive contributions because we taught them to care, share and love one
another.”

YEP’s three committed staff members serve as “community parents. Providing after school snacks, homework
help, use of computers systems to complete assignments.
